A very special self catering cottage in the heart of East Sussex

Completed in summer 2024, Little Hawthorn has been carefully and lovingly transformed into habitable accommodation offering self catering holiday accommodation. Our beautifully restored property retains the charm and elegance of the surroundings while offering modern amenities to our guests.

Located 5 miles from Lewes and situated 10 miles from both Brighton and Eastbourne. Quietly sitting in the grounds of our 120 year old cottage and within the nearby curtilage of the historic Laughton Place building (c.1200).

The rural sussex holiday cottage has been newly converted into a one bedroomed, warm, comfortable and cosy sanctuary.

Our Accommodation, Your Stay

Tucked away, cosy Little Hawthorn Cottage is comfortably equipped with a stylish interior. Your home from home. Curl up on the sofa in front of the roaring log fire, or just sprawl on the comfy king size bed.

The combined living and sleeping area is open plan and sufficiently spacious for two adults. You can be assured a peaceful night’s sleep as we are 1 mile away from the nearest main road so very little noise to disturb you other than bird song or the occasional sheep in a nearby field. The top rated Luxury Simba mattress will have you drifting off in no time at bedtime. A baby or small child can also be accommodated with a travel cot on request but please bring your own bedding.

Check-in to the cottage can be contactless or meet and greet - whatever your preference.

Accommodation Facilities

Adjacent to the sleeping area there is a cosy wood burning stove, LED TV, audio system and your own dedicated wi-fi internet access. A fully functioning kitchen is available for your exclusive use, including high end fridge/freezer, oven & hob, microwave, dishwasher. There are also laundry facilities should you require them. A separate luxury shower room awaits next door where you can reinvigorate after a hard day’s exploring.

Outside there is ample private parking, an area for you to drink or dine when the weather allows.

A welcome basket full of goodies awaits you on arrival but if you would like to stock up on further supplies there are various shops in the vicinity including the wonderful Laughton Village Store and Cafe, Morrisons in Ringmer or various supermarkets a short drive away in both Lewes or Hailsham (Waitrose, Tesco, Asda). Online grocery delivery ahead of your stay can be arranged; please speak with us.

Pet Policy

We love animals! We have Morag and Dudley our sociable Cocker spaniels - and well behaved furry friends are always welcome. The usual countryside code applies all around us. Depending on the timing of your visit there may be sheep or cattle in neighbouring fields, so please be considerate and keep your pets close by at all times.

Washing facilities for your pooch (and your boots!) are available outside after any muddy walks.

Location

Bird song and sunlight find their way in and around every room... so delightfully peaceful. Roe deer, pheasants, woodpeckers, jays and owls amongst many others often visit the garden. Starling murmurations are a common sight over the levels at various times during the year as are our resident swallows during the warmer months.

The list of activities to fill your day locally is endless; horse riding - or racing at nearby Plumpton, gliding, golf, cycling and paragliding or even kayaking/SUP for the restless or energetic.

Walking is available directly from Little Hawthorn’s entrance where you have a plethora of public walking paths and bridleways leading south to the Downs or into the Sussex Weald. The beaches at Eastbourne, Seaford and Brighton are all within a 20-30 minute drive.
